FAQs

How are your candles created?
Each candle is made in small batches and is hand poured. Like all things handmade each candle is different and variations may occur.

What are your candles made out of?
We use two kinds of wax for our candles. For our signature candles we use virgin coconut soy wax.  The virgin coconut soy wax is a vegan blend of both coconut, natural soy, and a tiny amount of refined food-grade paraffin wax. For our body butter candles we use beeswax coco crème. This is a blend of ethically sourced beeswax, coconut, soy, and palm waxes. Each of our wax blends are toxin free, gluten free, paraben free, and phthalate free.

What is soy wax?
Soy wax is a vegetable wax from the oil of soybeans. The soy wax is created by harvesting soybeans then cleaning, cracking, de-hulling, and rolling them into flakes. The oil then gets extracted from the flakes and hydrogenated. Soy wax is a good alternative to 100% paraffin wax because it is eco-friendly, renewable, sustainable, and carbon neutral.

What kind of fragrance oils do you use?
Our fragrance oils are phthalate free and most have a mix of pure essential oils sourced around the globe.

What is phthalate anyway?

The CDC defines phthalate as the following:
Phthalates are a group of chemicals used to make plastics more flexible and harder to break. They are often called plasticizers. Some phthalates are used as solvents (dissolving agents) for other materials. They are used in hundreds of products, such as vinyl flooring, adhesives, detergents, lubricating oils, automotive plastics, plastic clothes (raincoats), and personal-care products (soaps, shampoos, hair sprays, and nail polishes).

Phthalates are used widely in polyvinyl chloride plastics, which are used to make products such as plastic packaging film and sheets, garden hoses, inflatable toys, blood-storage containers, medical tubing, and some children’s toys.

So what makes them bad? They have the risk of damaging the reproductive system, kidneys, lungs, and liver.
